Joseph Franklin McCormick Jr., 80
Apr 11, 2018Falling Waters, W.Va., passed peacefully on Friday, April 6, 2018, surrounded by his family.Born Nov. 3, 1937, in Lexington, Va., he was the son of the late Joseph F. McCormick Sr. and Bernice (Showalter) McCormick, both of Lexington, as well as the stepson of the late Louise McCormick, also of Lexington.He served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1961.He was employed by Moller Pipe Organ Co. for 30 years as a masterful paint finisher until its closing. He then worked for Cavetown Planing Mill until retirement.He was an active member at the Church of Christ in Hagerstown, Md., prior to his decline with Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson's disease.He was cared for by his wife at home prior to requiring additional loving care at Coffman Nursing Home one year ago until his passing.He is survived by his wife, Nita (Penner) McCormick; his mother-in-law, Margaret Linton; his twin daughters, Marti (McCormick) Holnagel and husband, Jim, of Louisville, Ky., and Margie (McCormick) Jarrendt and husband, Royce, of Clifton, Va.; his daughter Sherie (McCormick) Nigh and husband, Brad, of Hagerstown; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.The family will receive visitors at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, on Friday, April 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, April 14, from 3 to 4 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 4 p.m.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Road SW, Lilburn, GA 30047 or online at www.LBDA.org.
